Introduction

In 1995 when our mixed breed dog "Bas", passed away, we decided we wanted a pure bred dog. That is when we discovered the Icelandic Sheepdog; a dog that is good with children, gets along naturally with other dogs and is kind.

After reading several books about dogs, the polar and scandinavian breeds caught   our primary interest. Most are hunting dogs and we wanted a family dog with less hunting instincts as we live close to the woods. Via the Finnish Lapphund, Norwegian Buhund we learned about the Icelandic Sheepdog. We had never heard of this breed before. Description of the character fit perfectly with  the qualities we wanted in our new dog: lively, happy, very social, healthy, and long lived.

In a dogmagazine we found a breeder's advertisement, who had imported the Iceland Dogs into the Netherlands in 1985.  The breeder was Ans Beer of Thytur Stadir Kennel. We went to visit her and her dogs and immediately lost our hearts to this wonderful breed. The next day,  Easter,  Gert visited her to help her with the horses

and dogs because one of her females Hekla, started labour. When Gert arrived, three pups had been born. Ans went to the horses and the other dogs telling Gert what to do if another pup was born. Indeed, after she left, a female pup was born. When she returned she promised Gert that if another male was born it would be for him. This wonder happened and a male puppy popped into the world: Djarfur a beautiful black tri! From that day on we have visited Ans regurlarly at the beginning of every week. She advised us and introduced us to the writings of Eberhard Trumler, giving us a new look at dog behaviour.

After one year Djarfur got a companion, Gáska frá Thytur Stadir as he had hard time being alone for a couple of hours. Gáska was the alpha dog in the house,  when Dimmalimm came to live with us. Unfortunately when Dimmalimm matured both the ladies had big fights and we decided to replace Gáska. Dimmalimm has had four litters that you can follow via buttons Puppies and Litters. In the forseeable future we will not have any litters, but we will announce litters from serious friend breeders under the Latest News button.
